So, two days ago, I was traveling on a freshly graveled dirt road with a group of friends. There were 5 cars in the group and 3 ended up sustaining damage. Here is how the cars were: Friend 1 was in his 2006 RWD Ram truck leading the way down the dirt road, I was following friend 1 in my 2014 Elantra, Friend 2 (Just got his license last thursday, and it was his first time driving alone) was behind me in his 2013 Civic, Friend 3 was in a 1999 Wrangler without abs behind the civic, Friend 4 was in his 2008 Element.
After going around a corner, the Ram's rear kicked out, sending it completely sideways into a ditch, and then up a pile of dirt, damaging its front bumper, and running boards. I hit the brakes in my Elantra to avoid hitting the ram, and stopped safely. Upon seeing my brake lights, friend 2, in his Civic mashed his brakes (way too hard), causing Friend 4, who was in his Wrangler, and was drifting around the corner, saw the stopped civic, and locked up his brakes sending him sliding into the Civic's back bumper. The Element, rolled around the corner to a pile up, and a cloud of dust. I jumped out and went over to my friends truck to see if he was ok, (he was fine). meanwhile, the driver of the civic was death-starring the Jeep driver. In the end, the Ram needed a new chrome bumper (They found one on craigslist, and installed it last night), the Jeep bent it's steel bumper beyond repair, and the Civic got a slightly cracked and scraped bumper. I can't believe how lucky I ended up, not being hit.

Nothing. It rolled up on the scene of the (sort-of) pileup.

That Element is tough. My friend caught it on fire after hitting a leaf pile last year.

Seriously aluminum unibody damage is bad news. My dad had a 2005 CRV (great car, wish he still had it) He was rear ended by a 2003 lancer. The lancers front end was pushed back a couple feet, the windshield was gone and the airbags deployed. The only thing wrong with the CRV after that crash was that the spare tire was pushed into the rear door and it wouldnt open. The airbags didnt deploy, the brakes still worked and the engine started up just fine, he even drove it to the repair shop to get it assessed. The unibody was bent a tiny bit where the spare tire was pushed in. Instantly totaled. It went to scrap yard where it was probably salvaged for the engine with only 54k miles on it.

Wow, that completely sucks. I will let my friend who owns the element know.
